My Counseling Philosophy
Each person has unique potential to overcome hardship, and this can be realized through identifying and leveraging innate strengths. When we build on this foundation of strength and resilience in counseling, we work to create sustainable and long lasting recovery. Individualized interventions that build on strengths lead to better outcomes.
I believe in empowering clients to make healthy choices for themselves. While at times I do give specific and direct advice, I see my role more as a guide for clients. I like to help clients explore the options they have and then support them in making decisions for themselves. This often leads to a greater sense of capability, confidence and self-determination.
My Style
My style is fairly relaxed. Sessions can be tough at times, which is why I think it's necessary to balance that with gentle, well-timed humor and lightheartedness. Laughter can be incredibly healing, so I try to bring a little levity to my work where appropriate.
